Abdominal Circumference Measurement (ACM)
This measurement is taken for applicants who exceed the weight standards as stipulated on the weight charts. For men, you should measure 39 inches to qualify while for women, you need to measure 35.5 inches or less. These measurements are taken at the uppermost hip bone after you have exhaled.

Although it may be tempting to leave your troubles behind and start serving your country as a teenager, you might want to reconsider.
You see, even though you can join young you may have trouble working your way up to a higher pay grade without a college education. After you enlist in the Navy you will be competing against college graduates that are in their 20’s for the best paying jobs.
Okay, so maybe you’re not a teenager, but you are still thinking about joining the Navy. Believe it or not, there’s a maximum age limit as well.
You are not allowed to enlist if you are over 34 years old. However, if you have served in other branches of the military you may qualify to enlist if you are above the maximum age limit. Talk to your recruiter for more information.
Before attending the Navy’s boot camp, you need to pass the Navy Physical Fitness Test or PRT test while in the Delayed Entry Program before you join the rest of the enlisted applicants. This is to ensure that you are physically fit for the challenges awaiting you in the boot-camp.
If you fail to meet these standards, then an abdominal circumference is taken.
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Exam
You must pass the ASVAB exam in order to enlist in the Navy The exam consists of ten short tests over 3 hours:

- Mechanical Comprehension

Not only is the test a requirement to join the Navy, but your score could help you get the job you want as well as signing bonuses. The minimum score required to pass is 31.

Navy Reserve applicants must pass a physical exam to ensure they are in good enough shape to endure the rigors of service. They must be between 60 and 80 inches, and be between 18 and 39 years of age.
Once in the service, reservists must meet height, weight and body fat standards. Males can weigh a maximum of 141 pounds at 60 inches, 191 pounds at 70 inches and 211 pounds at 74 inches. Females can weigh a maximum of 118 pounds at 55 inches, 141 pounds at 60 inches and 177 pounds at 70 inches.
Males ages 17 to 39 can have a maximum of 22 percent body fat. Females at the same age can have a maximum of 33 percent. Those exceeding these body-fat standards are deemed overweight and must enter a mandatory weight-loss program.
Body Fat Measurement
If you fail to meet the height/weight standards as well as abdominal circumference measurement, then you will undergo further screening to determine your body fat percentage.
For men, you need not to exceed 23% body fat. This figure is arrived at after taking abdomen measurements and neck measurements.
For women, they need not exceed 34% body fat, which is determined by taking hip, waist, and neck measurements.

Not sure if you are a citizen of this great country? According the the Fourteenth Amendment, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”
You can also join the Navy if you are a resident alien. That includes anyone that is a permanent U.S. resident but is not a citizen. Simply put, a resident alien is someone who has a green card.
Joining the U.S. Navy takes more character and physical toughness than most people realize. If you not only meet but exceed the requirements listed above, you may be a great candidate to join the Navy.

As we mentioned before, although these are minimum education requirements to enlist, you will be competing against other recruits with a college education.
In fact, in order to become an officer you will need to a 4-year college degree from an accredited university just to qualify. Not to mention, you’ll need to meet a long list of other requirements.
If you haven’t considered going to college, now might be the time to rethink your plans before enlisting in the Navy.
The standards for physical fitness in women also vary by age. Females ages 20 to 24 must complete 58 curl-ups, 21 pushups, a 1.5-mile run in 14 minutes and 15 seconds, and a 500-yard swim in 13 minutes and 15 seconds.
A maximum rating goes to 105 curl-ups, 48 pushups, a 1.5-mile run in 9 minutes and 47 seconds, and a 500-yard swim in 13 minutes and 15 seconds. For those 25 to 29, a good rating means 54 curl-ups, 19 pushups, a 1.
5-mile run in 14 minutes and 53 seconds, and a 500-yard swim in 13 minutes and 30 seconds. For the maximum rating, an individual must complete 101 curl-ups, 46 pushups, a 1.5-mile run in 10 minutes and 17 seconds, and a 500-yard swim in 7 minutes and 23 seconds.
According to a recent study, only 20% of potential military recruits will qualify to enlist based on their weight. Some even believe obesity is causing a national security issue. There is a growing trend of rejecting recruits because they are overweight and do not meet the minimum requirements to join the Navy.
