Age Requirements

Minimum age is 16 years, under 18’s need parental/guardian’s written consent before training.

Maximum age for a Static Line Jump is 50 years. There is no maximum age for a Tandem Jump.

Can you jump?

You must 18 years old, and be able to legally sign the waiver and binding contract.

Our Maximum weight limit for Tandem Students is 220lbs (100kg).

Our Maximum weight limit for AFF students is 240lbs (109kg).

If you are over 70 years of age, then please consult with us first about your ability to make a skydive.

Not everyone can skydive. There are many variables to skydiving and weight is just one of them. The parachute systems have a maximum designed weight limit. On a tandem jump, we add up the total weight of the passenger, the gear, the Tandem Instructor to make sure we are not outside the limits of the equipment.

Even if you are within the weight limit, your Body Mass Index and body shape may make any skydive more of a risk to you.

Tandem skydives

  • You have all of your weight sitting on the thighs during the parachute ride down. This can make it very uncomfortable if you are overweight for your height. Nausea, loss of circulation, and even unconsciousness under the parachute can happen.
  • Students sometimes have trouble lifting their legs for landing, making injury more likely.
  • The harness sometimes cannot be fitted properly or safely.
  • Larger passengers often have to jump with smaller tandem instructors, making their job difficult and their risk of injury greater.

AFF students

  • There is more to it than just sitting in the harness. You have to deploy the parachute, steer, maneuver, as well as deal with emergencies and possible malfunctions. A larger, heavier person means a larger parachute; which means more strength is required throughout the skydive to steer and land the parachute.
  • Decreased flexibility if you are overweight or have poor body shape means that you may not be able to reach handles, deploy the parachute or deal with emegency situations properly.

Skydiving is NOT an amusement ride. It is a training environment. Even a Tandem skydive requires the student to participate in the skydive to some degree.

Skydive City reserves the right to refuse service to anyone for the safety of our students and our instructors. And we do not ‘force’ our tandem instructors to take people, even if they fall into the age and weight limits.

Here is a graph to better understand skydiving weight restrictions. If you are overweight, over the age of 70, and/or have any underlying medical conditions, please call us at 1-800-888-JUMP prior to making your reservation.

What Can I Expect During My Skydive?

  • What Happens If The Weather Is Bad?
  • It happens and skydiving is very much weather dependant. But that’s not your fault! So, if it happens that on the day of your scheduled Tandem Skydive the weather is bad you can simply rebook at the Parachute Centre for a different date that is suitable to you. Remember Your Safety is paramount at all times, if we can not skydive on a particular day it is probably for your safety.
  • What Should I Wear?
  • Casual, comfortable clothes and runners is fine. Although we do have some whacky Stags {amp}amp; Hens, Superman {amp}amp; Catwoman are very popular!
  • How Will I Know What To Do?
  • Your Tandem Master takes care of everything. Each tandem skydiver receives full instructions and guidance from their Fully Qualified Tandem Master in advance of their skydive. This is a prerequisite to all tandem skydives. We take your safety (and ours!) VERY seriously.
  • What Happens If The Parachute Doesn’t Open?
  • The parachute technology we use is of the highest safety standards. Our systems are built with safety in mind and of course meet the required safety standards, designed to get you to the ground safe and sound! In the rare and unlikely event of a difficulty occurring with the main canopy (parachute), your professional tandem instructor will simply use the reserve parachute. In addition, all tandem parachute systems are fitted with an Automatic Activation Device that automatically opens the reserve parachute if the main parachute has not been deployed.
  • Should I Take Out Insurance?
  • Although it is not mandatory, you should consider personal insurance as you areNOT INSURED whilst skydiving.
www.sportscoverdirect.co.uk for example is one option but please also feel free to source your own insurance.
But before you purchase, make sure the policy provides the cover you require. Freefall Ireland Skydive Centre Ltd T/A as
Tandem Skydive Club Ireland does not provide personal insurance cover. If you obtain insurance cover it is your responsibility to insure the policy meets your needs and has the appropriate amount of cover for your requirements.

Extreme Sports

Skydiving in Ireland

Feel the phenomenal force of slipstream air on your face as you lean out the aircraft door before plunging into a free fall with no limit to your body’s movements.

Go from one extreme to the next as the chute deploys, your world will suddenly become a lot more still and silent as you glide towards the dropzone.

The landing is relatively soft but the euphoria is truly hardcore.

Ideal for an adventurous weekend, this is not for the faint hearted!

Irish Skydive Club — Tandem 10,000ft

Tandem Skydiving

Tandem Skydiving is the safest way for beginners to experience skydiving in Ireland. Our Club Members get

to experience the amazing and life changing experience of freefalling from altitudes of up to 10,000ft on their

first skydive. Dropping through the skies at speeds of up to  200 km/h is an experience our members never forget. The awesome and unique experience of freefall will have you dreaming of wanting more.

We welcome you to come and play in the skies with Irelands #1 skydiving club for Tandem Skydiving Safety. We have the best prices in Ireland for Tandem Skydiving.

Membership to our is included in the payment for the Tandem Skydive. We look forward to you becoming a member of our Club and taking to the skies of Kilkenny.

Skydiving Season

April to end of October

Due to the increased risk of injury due to the colder conditions in the winter months as its -2deg centigrade for every 1000 foot in altitude meaning aircraft exit tempertures of possibly -20deg centigrade  durning the winter months from 10000ft and  and the unfavourable weather conditions skydive season is from April to end of october

FreeFall 200 km/h

Freefalling through the sky at speeds of up to 200km/h is an incredible experience that you  will never forget.

You will never forget the feeling of the aircraft door opening, sliding over and falling out. You will feel the force of

the 200km wind blasting on to your body like nothing else. You’ll be glad to know that breathing normally is perfectly fine and easy to do during freefall. You will experience freefall for up to 35 seconds.

Parachute Flight {amp}amp; Landing

At approximately 5,000ft AGL the Tandem Instructor deploys the primary parachute. Once the parachute is fully

open everything then becomes much quieter. At this point you assist with steering and navigating the parachute

guided at all times by the Tandem Instructor. Navigating the Parachute is enjoyable. The Parachute Flight is silent,

peaceful and is an enjoyable and is the more relaxing part of the skydive. The Parachute Flight lasts approximately 4-5 minutes until touchdown on the aerodrome.

Our Club Tandem Instructors will tell you when it is time to get into your landing position The Instructor will perform a flare for a softer landing. The most important thing you must do is get your legs up as instructed.

Skydive Safety Limitations

You must meet all of our Skydive Safety Limitations to be permitted to skydive. These strict limitations exist

solely for safety reasons. The minimum age to skydive is strictly 18 years. The oldest is 65 years. Our safety limitations are STRICT and there are no exceptions.

Height {amp}amp; Weight Limits:

Tandem Skydiving is subject to very strict height and weight limits for safety reasons.

This is not only for your safety but also for the safety and consideration of the Club Instructors.

If 71” inches in height the max weight allowed is 225 lbs – provided our Club Instructors are willing to take you. Our Club Instructors are not obliged to take any person weighing over 210 lbs

Our Club instructors charge a fee of €30 for any person weighing over 210 lbs and 71″

Skydiving Equipment has certified maximum weight limitations. This maximum weight-limit determines

how much weight combined is permitted to be carried on the parachute equipment. This is obviously

essential for a number of obvious safety factors including a safer landing and to mitigate chance of injury.

Skydiving requires a certain minimum level of personal fitness, flexibility and agility. It is imperative that

you are able to hold your legs up for landing to mitigate the chances of personal injury to you or the Instructor.

Medical Limits:

The inherent and obvious safety risks involved in skydiving means that even a perfectly fit and healthy person

can suffer injury or even death. Having a past or reoccurring medical condition may exasperate the risk of injury.

If you continue to have reoccurring symptoms from an injury or medical condition you may be required to obtain a medical certificate of fitness to skydive. It is not always clear-cut as to whether a person is medically fit to skydive. It is not just your safety which concerns us. It is also the safety of the club skydiving instructor who you will be attached to for the Tandem Skydive.

Members must complete a Personal Medical Declaration on the day of a Skydive. If you do not meet our medical

limitations you will not be allowed to skydive.

The following medical limitations apply:

  • If you are suffering from any symptoms from a personal injury.

  • If you are suffering from any symptoms from a medical condition.

  • If you are prescribed certain medications.

  • If you have certain surgically installed rods, plates, pins, screws.

  • If you had invasive surgery for any reason in the past 12 months.

  • If you have a physical or mental disability.

  • If you have any mental health issues.

If any of the these medical limits apply to your circumstances you must follow these 3 steps:

Step 1: Contact us in advance of booking and advise of your personal circumstances.

Step 2: A Doctors Medical Certificate may be required.

Step 3: The final decision strictly rests strictly with the Club — ultimately you proceed at your own risk.

I did my first jump (static line) on the 22nd of June 1995 and I remember every bit of it, I was hooked from then on.

While traveling over an 8 year period, I obtained multiple rating such as, Jump Master, Coach, Static Line Instructor, Tandem Master, Drop Zone Safety Officer, Reserve Packer and Chief Instructor.

What are the Age / Weight / Height Limitations – Skydive4Charity

Age: No Age Limits, however:

  • If under 18 you must gain permission from your Parent(s) / Legal Guardian(s) and your Parent(s) / Legal Guardian(s) must be present at The Parachute Centre on the day of your jump to sign necessary documentation.
  • If you are over 50 years of age, you must provide a letter of Fitness from your Doctor (not a copy). This must be presented by you on the day of your jump and be issued within 2 weeks prior to the day of your Skydive.

Weight: Limit is 16 Stone (225 lb) (102 kg) – with clothes and shoes BMI IS IMPORTANT: Please note that your height / weight ratio is also a factor. This is known as your Body Mass Index (BMI). Our online registration form calculates your BMI for you, based on the height / weight data you enter. BMI is equal to [your weight (in kilograms)] ÷ [your height (in metres) x your height (in metres)] If your BMI is greater than 29.9, unfortunately you may not be eligible to do a tandem skydive. Example: John weighs 13 stone 4 pounds (84.54 kg) and is 5 feet 10 inches (1.778 m) tall. To calculate his BMI: Weight

1 Stone = 14 pounds – so 13 stone, 4 pounds = 182 4 = 186 pounds in weight

Converting weight from pounds to kilograms (kg)

Weight (in pounds) ÷ 2.2 = weight (in kilograms) so 186 pounds ÷ 2.2 = 84.54 kilograms (kg)

Height

1 foot = 12 inches so 5 feet, 10 inches = 60 10 = 70 inches

Converting height from inches to metres

Height (in inches) ÷ 39.37 = height (in metres) so 70 inches ÷ 39.37 = 1.778 m

Calculating Body Mass Index

Weight (in kilograms) ÷ [height (in meters) x height (in meters)] = BMI.

So in our example, Johns BMI is

84.54 kilograms ÷ (1.778 meters x 1.778 meters) = 26.75 BMI

Therefore John is eligible to do a tandem skydive.

Note: Whilst the BMI calculated on the date of you completing the charity skydive registration form indicates your eligibility to do a tandem skydive, if your BMI has increased to above the maximum threshold of 29.9 on the actual date of your tandem skydive, you may not be eligible to do your tandem skydive. It is the discretion of the participating parachute centre, not Skydive4Charity, to determine the eligibility of anyone doing a tandem skydive, on the date of the actual tandem skydive.
